Stroke/Carotid Artery-- Peripheral Arterial Disease (P.A.D)

It is time for my annual screening for:

Stroke/Carotid Artery Screening...
This is an Ultrasound scan of the carotid arteries
screens for buildup of fatty plaque - the leading cause of strokes.
This screening is recommended because your risk of a stroke
increases every year due to the buildup of plaque in your arteries.
Over 145,00 people died from strokes last year-
80% experienced no apparent symptoms.

Atrial Fibrillation....

This is a painless 6-lead Electrocardiogram
that can detect irregular heart rhythm,
which increases the risk of stroke 5 fold.

Osteoporosis Screening...
Ultrasound screens the heel for bone mass density.
Osteoporosis can be treated- once it is identified.

Peripheral Arterial Disease (P.A.D)
This screening evaluates arterial disease
in the lower extremities which increases
the risk of heart disease.
The narrowing of the blood vessels
in the legs is caused by the buildup
of fatty plaque and is a strong predictor
of heart disease.

These are all preventive screenings. Generally insurance providers DO NOT COVER them, unless you are showing symptoms.
