Thumb Pain..what in the world could it be?

There are many reasons for pain in the thumb area.
One reason is a referred pain from a trigger point
located in the brachialis muscle.
Cause for this is having the elbow held in
a flexed position for extended periods of time. This can cause overstressed muscles.
Such as holding a child, lifting heavy tools, playing a guitar/violin.

Shingles.. Stressed related..weakened immune system

Shingles is a viral infection
of the nerve roots (herpes zoster).

There is pain and often causes a rash
on one side of the body.
Either the left or right side.

Shingles is the latent aspect of chickenpox.
When the chickenpox virus is over the virus goes to sleep where it remains dormant in your nerve root.
In some people for unknown reasons remains dormant forever.
As your body experiences symptoms of stress, a weakened immune system or an injury this virus gets reactivated and
Shingles is the results.
Shingle symptoms happen in stages. At first you may have a headache or be sensitive to light. Later you may feel itching, pain or tingling in the affected area. This is where a band, a strip or a small area of rash may occur within a few days.
This rash will then turn into clusters of blisters.

Which are very painful.

It takes 2 to 4 weeks for these blisters to heal. Sometimes they leave scars.

Call your doctor should you think you may have Shingles. This is for informational purpose only.

Stroke/Carotid Artery-- Peripheral Arterial Disease (P.A.D)

It is time for my annual screening for:

Stroke/Carotid Artery Screening...
This is an Ultrasound scan of the carotid arteries
screens for buildup of fatty plaque - the leading cause of strokes.
This screening is recommended because your risk of a stroke
increases every year due to the buildup of plaque in your arteries.
Over 145,00 people died from strokes last year-
80% experienced no apparent symptoms.

Atrial Fibrillation....

This is a painless 6-lead Electrocardiogram
that can detect irregular heart rhythm,
which increases the risk of stroke 5 fold.

Osteoporosis Screening...
Ultrasound screens the heel for bone mass density.
Osteoporosis can be treated- once it is identified.

Peripheral Arterial Disease (P.A.D)
This screening evaluates arterial disease
in the lower extremities which increases
the risk of heart disease.
The narrowing of the blood vessels
in the legs is caused by the buildup
of fatty plaque and is a strong predictor
of heart disease.

These are all preventive screenings. Generally insurance providers DO NOT COVER them, unless you are showing symptoms.

The most common form of joint disease is....

Osteoarthritis (OA), or Degenerative Joint Disease (DJD).
An estimated 20.7 million Americans are affected by this. Most of them are over the age of 45. Arthritis mean "joint inflammation".

This condition can cause pain, stiffness and swelling in the joints.
As people age, the water portion of the joint cartilage increases while the protein part degenerates.
Osteoarthritis is a major cause for approximately 70% of
all knee replacements
and hip replacements.
Osteoarthritis is considered a "cold" disease. This is why all salves and heat generated packs for the disorder have a warming effect on the tissue. By increasing circulation in the joint, promoting increased movement and helps in the delivery of nutrients to the bones.

Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)

Irritable Bowel Syndrome will typically appear in the late adolescence or early adulthood. It will usually coincide with the Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Fibromyalgia. Some call it spastic colon.
Possible triggers to IBS is often connected to stress and our inability to cope with emotional problems. Sometimes it is certain types of foods and the amount we eat that will cause a flare up. Even in women it could be our menstruation cycle.
If you notice a change in your bowel movement patterns
symptoms began at least 6 months ago
you have abdominal pain or discomfort that last at least
3 days each month in the last 3 month
consult your doctor for medical advice.

Back Pain? Could be the Gluteus Medius .

I have several clients that have complained of low back pain.
Surprisingly it is not the back muscles that are causing
the discomfort, but the Gluteus Muscles. The Medius is deep into the Butt
muscles.
Do you place your wallet in the back pocket or tools you use during work?
Any exercising or adjustments to your current workout program?
Are you walking, running, playing tennis? These could be reasons for the pain.

Here a few strengthening exercises for the Gluteus Medius.
Always consult your doctor.

High Blood Pressure? Could A Massage help with the Stress?

Massage therapy has long been viewed by many as a luxury treat to your body. An indulgent that you may think about but feel a little guilty.

When your muscles are sore from the tension and stress you experience on a daily basis, your blood pressure is strained also.

While Deep Tissue massage therapy is very beneficial to your overall well-being, a healthy lifestyle change is necessary.

Consult your family doctor for more information.

Knee pain....

The knee joint is the largest joint in the body.

We all at one time or another have experienced some sort of knee discomfort. Symptoms develop from every-day wear and tear on our body, overuse and injury. Knee problems and injury most often happen during sports, recreational activities, home projects and work-related tasks.

The surface of the bones inside of the knee joint is covered by articular cartilage. This helps by acting like a shock absorber similar to a car's when going over bumps in the road.

Although knee problems are usually caused from an injury there are some people that are more prone the knee problems than others. Many jobs, sports, getting older, excessive weight and arthritis all contribute to the chances of developing problems with your knees.
Check with your doctor for more information.
Maintaining flexibility is important to keep the body mobile.

Gentle stretching and walking all help with the bodies movement.
